During France’s nationwide music festival, known as “Fête de la Musique,” on Sunday, there were scenes of chaos recorded on a number of streets and 243 arrests made across the country, including 148 in Paris.

However, according to the initial report from the French Interior Ministry, “the situation across the country was under control.”

In scenes recorded and posted to social media numerous vehicles were completely destroyed by twerking multicultural youths, many of whom were dancing on the hood and rooftop of the vehicles.

In addition, police were targeted by firework mortar fire by rampaging youths in various districts of Paris.

Two journalists from the French publication Frontières were also attacked while they were covering a demonstration at the festival organized by the far-left France Unbowed party (LFI).

The paper wrote on X: “While covering the demonstration against racism and the concert organized by LFI in Paris, two of our journalists were pursued by about ten Antifas for several hundred meters, resulting in an injury to one of them. A complaint will be filed.”

Despite what appear to be some clear disturbances captured on video at Fête de la Musique, the interior ministry reported that the security measures were “effective” because “no major incidents were recorded.”

In Paris alone, 4,800 police officers and gendarmes were deployed, supported by 2,500 firefighters, according to the Paris police headquarters.

Due to unrest seen at the Fête de la Musique in the past, police banned the consumption of alcohol in most major cities across France. In some areas like Nanterre and Auch, the festival was canceled entirely, reportedly due to the heatwave which France is currently suffering under, according to Le Figaro.

Last year, 145 French women were targeted in syringe attacks during the famed music festival, a story that made international headlines. So far, there have been no reports of such syringe attacks this year.
