The U.S. State Department approved a $10 billion procurement of HIMARS launchers and munitions by Poland, announced the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
The contract includes 18 HIMARS launchers, 45 ATACMS missiles with a range of 300 kilometers, 478 missile loading kits, 461 high-precision GMLRS-AW sets, 521 GMRLS-U kits and 532 sets of GMLRS-ER AW with a range of 150 kilometers, replacement parts, training missiles, and logistics solutions.
The State Department also approved the sale of almost 500 HIMARS launchers. Most of them would be mounted on Polish vehicles. Poland will also procure a supply of ammunition.
“We have entered price negotiations,” Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak posted on Twitter.
“The proposed procurement will help the Polish Armed Forces achieve its goals regarding the modernization of capabilities and a further increase in interoperability with the U.S. and other allies,” Błaszczak added.
Each missile set (except ATACMS) consists of six pieces, with the total estimated cost of the transaction being $10 billion dollars (45 billion zloty).
This is the second order placed by Poland’s government for HIMARS launchers. In 2019, Poland ordered 20 launchers, for which deliveries are to begin this year.
