Hungarians overwhelmingly support a return to the White House for former U.S. President Donald Trump over the re-election of Joe Biden, recent polling has revealed.
In a recent survey by the Real-PR 93 agency, 47 percent of respondents said a second term for the former Republican president would be better for Hungary, compared with just 22 percent who supported the current Democrat administration.
Hungarians across all age groups comprehensively back Trump over Biden. Those aged 18-39 want Trump back in the Oval Office over Biden by 41 percent to 25 percent. This increased to 45 percent to 20 percent for those aged 40-59, while Hungarians over the age of 60 support Trump by 55 percent to 22 percent.
Unsurprisingly, the highest cohort for Republican support was found among voters of Hungary’s governing Fidesz party, 72 percent of whom back Trump compared to just 7 percent wanting Biden to be re-elected.
Left-wing voters were the only category where support for Joe Biden was greater, with 47 percent to Trump’s 21 percent. However, paradoxically, residents in Hungary’s capital of Budapest, typically a left-wing stronghold, favored Trump (44 percent) over Biden (29 percent).

Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán enjoyed a close political alliance during the former Republican president’s tenure in the White House, a relationship that has been maintained throughout Trump’s time in the political wilderness following his 2020 electoral defeat.
At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) held in Budapest in May, Orbán praised Trump’s former leadership and called for his return to help eradicate the grip of liberalism in Washington and Brussels, which he described as a “virus that will atomize and disintegrate our nations.”

“I’m sure if President Trump would be the president, there would be no war in Ukraine and Europe. Come back, Mr. President. Make America great again and bring us peace,” he added.
Ahead of the Hungarian election last year, Trump regarded Orbán as a patriot who “truly loves his country and wants safety for his people.”
“He has done a powerful and wonderful job in protecting Hungary, stopping illegal immigration, creating jobs, and trade, and should be allowed to continue to do so in the upcoming election. He is a strong leader and respected by all.”
