Following a “Black Weekend” in Barcelona, where two people were murdered in knife attacks, a 20-year-old Nigerian man has now been murdered in a public park in Madrid, with police having already arrested a Moroccan suspect.

This stabbing happened early in the morning, today, at around 7:15 a.m., after the victim was stabbed twice in the chest in Paraíso Park in the San Blas district.

According to multiple witnesses, the victim and the assailant engaged in an argument, after which the attacker drew a knife and assaulted the young man. The deceased has been identified as a 20-year-old Nigerian man, D. O., while the perpetrator is a 38-year-old Moroccan man who was apprehended a few streets away from the scene.

Video of the incident shows rescue workers trying to save the victim’s life.

Madrid Emergencies reported that the stabbing occurred at the park located on Alberique Street. National Police officers were the first to arrive and began resuscitation maneuvers (CPR) on the victim, who was “bleeding profusely.”

Medics from Samur-Protección Civil arrived shortly after to continue cardiopulmonary resuscitation. After 30 minutes, medical staff determined that “nothing could be done to save his life” and confirmed the victim’s death.

Eyewitnesses, who identified the suspect “without a doubt,” described the perpetrator as a homeless individual and a drug user.

After the stabbing, the 38-year-old man fled on foot and was located an hour later on Emilio Ferrari Street. Although he was “covered in blood,” he was no longer in possession of the murder weapon.

Investigators believe the stabbing occurred after the two “argued over a matter related to narcotics,” according to El Pais newspaper. Forensic teams are working at the scene.

El Pais reports that the area has been the site of several violent episodes in recent years and is known as a location “frequently visited by people with drug dependency problems.”

The stabbing murder comes after a “Black Weekend” in Madrid, in which two people were murdered in separate stabbing attacks.
