A trans Pakistani national has reportedly confessed to the fatal stabbing of a 35-year-old man found dead inside his Marseille apartment on Friday evening.

The victim was discovered by his mother at an apartment on Boulevard Bonnes Grâces in the city’s Belle-de-Mai. She found her son lying wounded and called emergency services.

Firefighters arrived at the property and found the man in cardiac arrest, according to La Provence and Info.fr. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An examination of the body found at least two stab wounds, prompting police to open a homicide investigation.

Hours later, a 22-year-old suspect presented himself at the Noailles police station and admitted stabbing the victim the previous day. He was taken into custody.

The suspect was born in Germany in 2004 and holds a Pakistani passport listing him as female. The suspect is reported to be in the process of transitioning to male.

Investigators established that the suspect and the victim had met only days earlier, and the suspect had reportedly been staying with the victim at the time of the killing.

The alleged murder weapon was later recovered in a public place after information provided by the suspect.

A psychiatric assessment carried out during custody found that the suspect’s judgment was impaired at the time of the attack, but not completely absent. That finding could become significant in court, as it may affect sentencing without necessarily removing criminal responsibility.
