The latest poll shows Confederation’s Sławomir Mentzen at 16 percent ahead of the first round of Poland’s presidential election in May.
According to the “Super Express” poll, KO’s Rafał Trzaskowski and PiS’s Karol Nawrocki are still in the lead, with 35 percent and 25 percent, respectively. However, both have lost support since the previous survey, down two points each.
Meanwhile, Mentzen jumped 2 percentage points to 16 percent support.
“The poll shows that Karol Nawrocki is still facing the challenge of gaining the full trust of PiS voters. His support is permanently lower than the results of Jarosław Kaczyński’s party,” said Dr. Bartosz Rydliński, a political scientist from UKSW, in an interview with the daily.
This is the best result that a politician from Confederation has achieved so far, reports Do Rzeczy, with Mentzen believing even a second round is within his reach.
“This is an extremely difficult task, it will require a lot of work from many people, but it is possible. This time it may work. There are still three months of the campaign left, in which we will fight for the second round until the last day! Nothing is impossible!” the MP posted on X.
The Confederation candidate argues that he is fighting an “exceptionally unequal fight” with the candidates of the largest parties because his opponents are supported by state-owned companies, large international corporations and the largest media outlets.
Mentzen also asked supporters for donations, saying his campaign budget is much smaller than the money available to PiS and KO.
“I need your help. Not everyone can get involved in politics, not everyone has time to collect signatures, but almost everyone can afford to donate to our campaign. It doesn’t matter if it’s 50, 100 or 1000 zloty,” he wrote.
PiS’s candidate, meanwhile, has been out promising voters that he will lower electricity bills by one-third, lower VAT on food from 5 percent to zero and on electricity and gas from 23 percent to 8 percent, push forward the CPK airport project, oppose the EU’s migration pact and Green Deal, and pursue more local investments in Poland.
The first round of the presidential elections will be held on May 18, with a possible second round on June 1.
