Due to a massive decline in passengers, Polish Airlines LOT is considering cutting flight connections, with the drop in air travel demand increasing worries the company will suffer severe financial repercussions.

LOT has been affected by the issue of empty planes, including on domestic flights. One person interviewed mentioned being on a Warsaw-Kraków flight entirely on his own.

Although LOT has not released any statistics, Agnieszka Szelągowska of the flight attendant staff trade union explained that the attendance of passengers is steadily decreasing.

On flights between Polish cities and Tel Aviv, there are only passengers on return flights. Given the Israeli government’s decision to declare a 14-day quarantine, not many people want to travel there.

For now, LOT has announced a relatively low amount of flight connection cuts. The most major cut is the closure of flights between Warsaw and Beijing, which will be suspended until April 25.
