Prague has the best castle in the world, at least if we are to use Instagram popularity as our defining metric. Prague Castle dominates the current ranking of the most popular castles on the social media platform. In the analysis of the Stokemont surveying practice, the Czech capital surpassed, for example, the Scottish Edinburgh Castle and Windsor Castle.
The primacy of the home of Czech princes, kings, and later also presidents was ensured by the highest number of hashtags with which users provided their photographs. As of March 23, 2021, analysts had counted 667,933 hashtags while the second-place Edinburgh Castle appeared on Instagram 581,111 times. Prague also surpassed Germany’s Neuschwanstein with 390,457 hashtags and even fouth-place Windsor Castle, the seat of the British kings, which featured 388,855 hashtag posts.
The Pena Palace in Portugal, the Budapest Castle, and the Spanish Alhambra follow further behind. The top ten are closed out by a castle in Leeds, England, and a Romanian pair of castles, the Bran Castle and Peleș Castle. Only 78,705 hashtags were enough to earn tenth place.
