Mark Brzezinski, the son of Zbigniew Brzezinski, who was national security advisor to former US President Jimmy Carter, is the most likely candidate to be chosen as ambassador to Poland, according to a report from the New York Times.
The Times information is based on information it obtained about potential candidates for US ambassadors for several countries.
Mark Brzezinski himself is a lawyer and diplomat. During Barack Obama’s presidency he was the US ambassador to Sweden between 2011 an 2015. Previously, soon after Obama’s inauguration as president of the United States, he was considered for the position of ambassador to Warsaw.
On Jan. 20, 2021, Georgette Mosbacher ended her mission as ambassador to Poland.
“I am incredibly proud of our joint work to advance US-Polish relations. I have a deep affection for the Polish people. From a very deep part of my heart, I will miss my time in Poland. I will be back because the affection and love I have for Poland, I will always have, so I intend to come back and visit often,” she said in a farewell video published by the US embassy in Warsaw.

Mosbacher became US ambassador to Poland in August 2018. At the end of December 2020, she announced that she had filed her resignation. This was the result of former President Donald Trump’s defeat during November 2020 elections.
Many Polish politicians had been fairly critical of her mission in Poland. It was often stressed that Mosbacher exceeded her diplomatic competencies by interfering with Poland’s internal affairs.
The Brzezinski family has close ties to the US, but they originally came from Poland to North America prior to the Second World War.
Zbigniew Brzezinski, the father of Mark Brzezinski, was born in Poland to parents who were diplomats. His family moved to Canada in the 1930s when his father was posted to Montreal as consul general. Brzezinski later served as counsellor to president Lyndon B. Johnson and was Carter’s national security advisor between 1977 and 1981.
