Vladimír Dlouhý appointed Eurochambres Deputy President

Eurochambres is the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry. At its Wednesday meeting in Rome, the Association elected the head of the Austrian Economic Chamber Christoph Leitl as its president for the next two years. President of the Czech Chamber of Commerce Vladimír Dlouhý was elected deputy president.

Dlouhý wants to focus on strategic planning and lobbying the European Union institutions and recommended that the Association set its priorities for the next mandate of the European Commission.

At the same time, Dlouhý became a member of the Eurochambres Board of Directors. The Czech Chamber of Commerce has also been represented in the Budgetary Committee since Vice President of the Czech Chamber of Commerce Ireba Bartoňová Pálková was confirmed a member of the Committee for the next year.

Vladimír Dlouhý remains one of the most famous figures of the post-November economic transformation the Czech Republic in the 1990s. From 1992 to 1997, he was minister of Industry and Trade. After that, he retired from politics to focus on the private sector. In January 2008, he became a member of the National Economic Council of the Government of the Czech Republic. In 2013, Dlouhý ran unsuccessfully for president in the first direct elections of the president of the independent Czech Republic. Since 2014, he has been president of the Czech Chamber of Commerce.

The Czech Chamber of Commerce joined Eurochambres as an associate member on October 3rd, 1994 and became a full member after the Czech Republic joined the European Union on May 1st, 2004.
