The Czech President has called for further unity of the V4 countries, because only the V4 will be able to push its agenda in the EU, his spokesperson wrote on Twitter. According to the spokesperson’s post, Zeman also praised the role of the V4 in regards to migration, saying that thanks to the V4 no one is forcing migrants upon us.
Slovak President Andrej Kiska believes that V4 leaders should always publicly state their support for the EU project, despite the difficulties. It is important to limit voices that divide Europe into old and new, he said.
Leaders however remain divided over Russian sanctions. After the meeting in Tatras, Kiska criticized questioning the sanctions, saying it is damaging the relationships with citizens and the EU. Zeman on the other hand repeatedly spoke against the sanctions imposed on Russia.
President Zeman also invited his V4 counterparts to Prague in July next year, when the Czech Republic will take over the Visegrad Presidency from Slovakia.
