In an incredibly touching video, Polish police officer Zbigniew Niewiadomski returns home after several weeks of service at the Polish-Belarusian border during the current crisis. His children’s reaction speaks for itself.
“Explosions of happiness, tears of joy and relief that their dad police officer has returned home after a few weeks of service at the border. Not every hero wears a cape. P.S. Warm regards to officer Zbigniew Niewiadomski’s wife and children from the 2nd Prevention Unit company,” the tweet reads.
There has been an ongoing crisis on the Polish border with Belarus. Since the start of 2021, the Border Guard has recorded over 36,000 attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border. Over 6,000 attempts were in November, close to 17,300 in October, almost 7,700 in September and over 3,500 in August.
On Sept. 2, 2021, the Polish government introduced a state of emergency in the regions closest to the border. It was initially introduced for 30 days, but was later extended by another 60 days.
Alexander Lukashenko’s regime has been using migrants to conduct hybrid warfare against Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. The Polish government asserts that aggressive foreigners from the Middle East have been instructed on how to attack Polish services. Massive groups of migrants have assaulted border defenses over the last months.
By mid 2022, a new barrier will be erected on the Polish-Belarusian border in the Podlasie region, topped with barbed wire and enhanced with modern electronic security. The fence will be 180 kilometers long and 5.5 meters tall.
