A recent debate in the European Parliament in which Poland was lambasted for its issuing of visas is a classic attempt at manipulation, writes Zbigniew Kuźmiuk, a Polish MEP for the governing Law and Justice (PiS) party.
He claimed that a European Parliament (EP) debate on Tuesday, in which it was suggested that the issuing of 268 visas in an irregular manner was tantamount to Poland losing control of illegal migration, was a misrepresentation of the facts to create a totally artificial scandal.
Poland has issued 2 million visas, three-quarters of which have been issued to Ukrainians and Belarusians out of which 268 have been found to have been issued illegally.
It’s rather similar to the fake affair over “LGBT free zones” that never existed. Now, we have an attempt to create a visa scandal out of a tiny number of visas that admittedly should never have been issued, Kuźmiuk stated.
In the European Parliament debate, Polish liberals and left MEPs hyped up the issue claiming that the Polish government had encouraged the abuse when in fact Polish security services had acted quickly to identify those who had profited.
Kuźmiuk called the attempt to burden Poland with responsibility for the migration crisis both irresponsible and an effort to deflect attention away from Germany’s woeful decision to open its doors to illegal migrants. It is yet another attempt to use fake news to defame Poland and get EU institutions to engage in Poland’s internal affairs, he added.
He accused the European Parliament’s left-wing majority of trying to help the liberals in Poland ahead of the election, but also claimed the allegations against the Polish government were an attempt to shift attention away from the fact Germany is funding NGOs who organize boats to move illegal migrants from North Africa to Italy’s ports.
Grilling the Polish government, which is actually protecting the Polish-Belarusian border from Lukashenko’s hybrid war, is an outrage, he added.
Lastly, Kuźmiuk claimed the liberals and the left want to remove the ruling conservatives (PiS) from office in Poland and are getting help from the EU establishment. And the price of that support would be for Poland, under liberal rule, to agree to the migration pact and take in illegal migrants.
