Nord Stream 2: symbol of a marginalized Central Europe

Despite protests from Central European states against the Nord Stream 2 project to deliver Russian natural gas to Europe, the project is moving forward. Driven by the will Russia and Western Europe, the project has become a symbol of the concept of a Europe that begins in Lisbon and ends in the Russian city of Vladivostok.

One thing is certain: Only the U.S. will be able to stop the creation of the Russian-led Nord Stream 2 project. Every other action will merely delay its construction.

But the Americans have no will to act and this inaction should worry everyone that sees the danger of this Russian natural gas pipeline.

The project is not just fatal for Poland, but also for all the Three Seas initiative countries of Central Europe that lie between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic seas.

The US military bases in Poland will not help either. The balance of power in the region will not be determined by tanks.

Through pure economic force, these Three Seas countries will be crushed in a “peaceful” manner, all with the help of their so-called allies in the EU.

Nobody needs to stretch their imagination much to foresee that projects like the Nord Stream 2 will be repeated in the future, which will lead to the exclusion and weakening of countries between Russia and Western Europe.

Only the development of the economies of our region can prevent this disaster from happening and that is unlikely to happen without investments from the U.S. in the form of moving production away from China.

It is not realistic to believe that Poland and other countries in the region will be able to successfully block strategic transit and trade between the East and the West. Countries will just avoid us as they have done with the Nord Stream 2 project.

The U.S. remains a key ally in the fight to ensure Central Europe remain a vital regional and trade ally. The question now is what is the U.S. waiting for? They already slept through the rise of China’s power and in many ways encouraged it. Now, a new power that could threaten U.S. interests is rising through the Lisbon-Vladivostok project.

The U.S. will not stop this project with mere words. Only decisive action will keep the project and future projects like it from moving forward.
