President Andrzej Duda’s visit to the United States saw Duda meet with close ally former President Donald Trump in New York City. The two leaders had dinner together at Trump Tower, with discussions reportedly spanning various topics, including matters concerning Ukraine.
The Associated Press noted President Duda’s long-standing admiration for Trump, coupled with his staunch support for aiding Ukraine and urging increased military assistance from the U.S. to counter Russian aggression.
Trump, upon meeting Duda, lauded the Polish president’s performance, referring to him as “fantastic” and emphasizing their friendship. Trump reminisced about their four years of cooperation while he held office, affirming continuous support for Poland.
In remarks to journalists, President Duda emphasized the private nature of the meeting, stating it was a personal invitation from Trump during his visit to New York.
“I was invited to his private apartment, so this is a completely private visit, a private invitation,” stated Duda. He highlighted their positive relationship forged over the years.
A photo shared by President Duda’s chief of staff, Marcin Mastalarek, depicted the Polish president and Trump in what was described as a friendly atmosphere during their conversation.
“Excellent talk,” he added.
Wojciech Kolarski, a minister in the Polish presidency, described the meeting as a testament to the strong ties between Poland and the United States, with Trump’s repeated expressions of affection and recognition toward Poland being noted. Kolarski underscored the significance of the discussions between the two leaders in strengthening bilateral relations.
