According to police reports, at least one individual was shot twice and injured during the incident. An investigation remains ongoing but news reports indicate that a suspected gangland shooting linked to the drug trade could be a factor behind the shooting, according to Lyon Mag.
Since March 29, there have been four shootings in just this one area of Joliot-Curie, involving an ongoing turf war over the drug trade.
Despite police flooding the area to suppress the violence, postal workers have grown so concerned that the central post office took the exceptional decision to suspend deliveries to the area. A poster was placed in numerous buildings in the area indicating that normal postal deliveries could not occur due to the violence.

Bullet holes are spread throughout the area, in car windows, as well as the facade and windows of numerous buildings.
Since April 3, 2026, residents must now go directly to the main post office in Vénissieux to collect their mail and packages.
“We will resume distribution as soon as the safety conditions for our postmen are met,” stated the post office.
The area in Lyon is known for Immigrant-related violence, which has exploded here since the 1980s. The area is now run by far-left LFI mayor, Idir Boumertit, of Algerian descent, who is known for routinely filing complaints with the prosecutor’s office for “police violence.” The area was also the site of the famous 1981 riots that led to the first major national “urban policy” (politique de la ville).
