The total length of highways and express roads completed in Poland will exceed 5,000 kilometers (3,100 miles) in 2023, announced spokesman for the General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA) Jędrzej Puzyński.
Currently, express roads and the country’s highway network span 4,886.6 kilometers, including 1799.7 kilometers of highways and 3086.9 kilometers of express roads.
“We are not able to precisely specify when the 5,000-kilometer barrier will be crossed. A couple of investments must be made available for this level to be reached. It surely will be this year, there is no doubt,” said Puzyński.
The Polish Infrastructure Ministry announced in January that the country will construct 256 kilometers of national roads. The plan also includes bids for investments in 565 kilometers of roads and signed deals for the completion of another 295 kilometers.
The Ring Road Program for years 2020-2030 assumes the implementation of 100 investments that produce 820 kilometers of roads in total. Their total worth was initially estimated at 28 billion zloty (€5.9 billion).
Last year, Poland built 322 kilometers of new roads: 46 kilometers of highways, 221 kilometers of express roads, and almost 55 kilometers of roads of the GP class, including two ring roads realized as part of the program to build 100 ring roads.
Poland’s National Road Building Program will run until 2030, with a perspective until 2033, with the program including a list of investments in national roads worth 294 billion Polish zloty (€61.9 billion).
