EUCOM, the United States troop command in Europe, has informed its allies about its decision to modify the Defender-Europe 2020 exercise and stop troop transfers to Europe due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Exercises such as Dynamic Front, Joint Warfighting Assessment, Saber Strike, and Swift Response have been canceled as borders close across Europe.

“The health and security of our troops, civilian staff and their families are our primary concern,” declared EUCOM.

However, the U.S. tank brigade already in Europe will participate in target practice and other training as part of a modified exercise “Allied Spirit”. Other forces which were transferred to Europe for other exercises will instead return to the U.S.
