Polish volleyball players triumphed on Monday during their match with Italy, which they won 3-0. This was the Polish team’s second match at the Tokyo Olympics. Their first was against Iran, which they narrowly lost 2-3.

Following their victory over Italy, Wilfredo Leon underscored that there would not be any easy games at the Olympics, as every match was incredibly important.

Leon emphasized, however, that he was calm because he felt God’s support.

“I sleep calm. I’m always with God. He can do much and helps me,” he declared.

Wilfredo Leon is one of the pillars of the Polish volleyball team. He surprises his opponents with powerful attacks and serves. Prior to joining Poland, he represented Cuba until 2012, when the Cuban volleyball federation forbade its players to sign contracts with foreign clubs. Leon decided to play abroad and was removed from Cuba’s list representatives as a result.

Leon has a Polish wife and received Polish citizenship in 2015.

He also received permission to change his federation from Cuban to Polish and has been playing for Poland since 2019.
