According to information that Lidové noviny gathered, an operation was carried out by the 601st Special Forces Group that had been operational in Afghanistan for quite some time. Reportedly, one person had been killed and one had been captured.

As it usually is when it comes to a clandestine operation, there are no official statements. It is alleged that all those involved had been ordered to strict silence by Prime Minister Babiš.

The three Czech soldiers – sergeant Martin Marcin, private Kamil Beneš and private Patrik Štěpánek – will receive state honors in memoriam from Commander-in-chief President Zeman on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakian independence.

The soldiers died when a suicide bomber detonated himself in front of their patrol at the Bargam base. In August after their remains were brought home, they were buried with military honors. According to their commanders, their actions on that day prevented an even worse tragedy and more causalities.
