Another knife attack targeting a teacher has rocked Germany, this time in Essen, which has triggered a major police operation

A student attacked a teacher at the educational park in the Nordviertel district of Essen, which is located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The vocational school is located between Blücher Straße, Unsuhr Straße, and Altenessener Straße.

The victim suffered a serious stab wound in his stomach. He is being treated at a university hospital and is scheduled to undergo emergency surgery. According to Bild newspaper, it is unclear if the victim’s life is in danger.

The perpetrator remains on the run from police, who arrived at the scene at 9:30 a.m., and have sealed off the entire building.

“We have a large number of officers on site,” said a police spokesperson.

Helicopters and special police tactical units are now on scene, with a police helicopter circling the building overhead.

No description of the suspect has yet been released.

The attack mirrors a wave of physical violence directed against teachers in recent years, often from migrants. Last year, four Syrians stabbed a teacher in Hamburg, nearly killing him.

In 2023, a 17-year-old boy with a migration background murdered his 55-year-old school teacher with a knife just hours after he had been expelled from school for one day for misbehaving.

Another teacher was butchered by a Somali migrant while she protected her 11-year-old daughter in Würzburg in 2021.
