Hungary is experiencing “siege-like conditions” on its southern border with Serbia, Balázs Orbán, Prime Minister Orbán’s political director, said on his Facebook page. According to Balázs Orbán, the number of border violators in Hungary has increased by more than 90 percent. He explained that the food crisis caused by the war is already having its effects, and illegal migration is increasing.
Orbán also shared some research in his post, according to which no fewer than 36 million people left their homes in Africa this year due to the worsening economic and political instability, and many of them have already set off for Europe.
The political director explained that the new wave of migration has now reached the borders of Hungary: They are trying to cross the border with more and more violent tactics, and armed clashes have already taken place on the Serbian side, resulting in one fatality.
He added that already this year, border guards have arrested more than 150,000 border violators, an increase of more than 90 percent compared to the 2021 figure. Orbán added that the government has already begun to strengthen the country’s southern borders and build a border hunting system.
The training of 200 contract border guards has begun in Nyírbátor; their task will be to ensure the inviolability of the Hungarian state border and prevent illegal crossings.
The director concluded his post by saying, “However, only the restoration of peace can provide a long-term solution, as this is the only way to put an end to the food shortage affecting the developing world and avoid another migration crisis!”
