A 13-year-old Ukraiinian girl has been detained for brutally attacking an elderly woman on the street. The victim survived with luckily no life-threatening injuries. No motivation has yet been communicated.

On March 15, around 1 p.m., in the town of Legnica. While returning home from church, a senior citizen was attacked by a Ukrainian minor who punched her in the face, causing injuries including a broken nose. The perpetrator then fled the scene, TVP Info reports.

Describing the attack, the elderly woman stated, “They didn’t utter a word, and I didn’t have time to react either, as they came at me from the right. I had to stop, she looked into my eyes and immediately punched me with all her might.”

When asked why the girl hit her, she said, “I don’t know how to define it, because for me it certainly wasn’t robbery, because I didn’t even have money with me.”

The case was handled from the outset by officers from the Juvenile and Pathology Department. During their investigation, officers secured images of individuals potentially involved in the incident, identified and interviewed witnesses, and collected evidence that allowed for a complete reconstruction of the course of events.

The 13-year-old involved was then arrested on Monday, in accordance with applicable regulations for minors, and taken to the police children’s shelter. Authorities are ensuring the court has a complete picture of the situation and can make an informed decision.

A family court will now conduct further proceedings and decide on the application of educational or corrective measures to the minor, as provided for by law.

While such violent acts are reported on quite often in Western countries such as Germany and France, with a disproportionate number involving migrants, such events remain uncommon in Poland.
