More Poles are planning a holiday trip this summer but most of them plan to stay in their homeland, according to research from the Polish Tourism Organisation (POT).
POT’s report shows that 65 percent of Poles are planning to take a summer vacation, a significant rise of 18 percent compared to last year. Booking portals where Poles typically make reservations are reporting an increase between 20 and 30 percent in demand compared to 2021.
According to the deputy minister for sports and tourism, Andrzej Gut-Mostowy, this shows that the industry is recovering from the pandemic.
The research has found that nearly three-quarters of those surveyed (71 percent) plan to take a holiday in Poland, and one-fifth will go abroad (19 percent), while only 10 percent are undecided as to their destination.
Of those planning their vacation in Poland, 41 percent are headed to the Baltic coast, 27 percent want to holiday in the mountains in the south of the country, and 16 percent will head to one of Poland’s lake districts. Only 5 percent plan to visit another Polish city.
The report suggests that more Poles than ever before are willing to engage in very active forms of recreation. Also, the much-improved road and rail infrastructure is contributing to a willingness to travel, especially since the average travel time to get from one end of the country to the other has been significantly reduced over the years.
Another factor is the government voucher scheme, which grants financial contributions to families for spending their vacation in Poland.
