Illegal migrants continue to storm the Polish border

According to Polish Border Guard, prior to midnight on Saturday, a group of 100 illegal migrants transported to the border by Belarusian services tried to break through the Polish-Belarusian border near the village of Czeremsza.

Also, on Sunday night, near Dubicze Cerkiewne another “150-strong group of aggressive migrants tried to break into Polish territory. The attack was supervised by Belarusian services” the Border Guard stated on Twitter.

“Belarusian services are transporting a group of migrants, around 100 to 150 people. Belarusian officers also brought a wooden footbridge and threw it onto the barbed wire. Polish services tried to take the footbridge away and stop the crossing,” the Border Guard spokeswomen lieutenant Anna Michalska said..

She added that the groups of migrants were violent and attacked Polish officers with rocks, tree branches and blinding lasers, but fortunately no one was wounded.

Meanwhile, police press officer Marcin Gawryluk stated that Saturday night was calm in the border region with Belarus when it came to police interventions on the border. He also said that five human traffickers who illegally crossed the border were detained by the police in the Podlaskie region. The detainees are Georgian, Belarusian and Dutch citizens.

Since the start of 2021, the Polish Border Guard has recorded over 35,000 attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border. Over 6,000 attempts were recorded in November, close to 17,300 in October, almost 7,700 in September and over 3,500 thousand in August.
